Mito schools: the Yegawa

The founder, Yegawa [Japanese text] Toshimasa I (about 1800), worked first at Mito as a pupil of the Ichiriū, but was later adopted by Katsura Yeiju of the Yokoya School and followed the Yokoya style. He worked for a time at Kurume for Arima, Lord of Chikugo province, using the art-name of Sōrin; later he moved the atelier to Yedo. His famous son Toshimasa II (known as Sōrin II), and others of his successors, reverted to the Ichiriū and allied styles.
