The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

Narrow band with small chalices and double crosses. The chalices are yellow with blue interior, the crosses are mainly white and yellow, plus three red and one blue. The ground colours of the band are green, yellow, blue, white, and red.

One of two bands which are not embroidered but tapestry woven, using a silk weft. The width of the band is 1 cm. If the identification of cross and chalice is correct, the textile is likely to have belonged to a Copt and possibly was part of a vestment.
