The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

A wide design field is filled with squares and triangles. The largest square is embroidered with blue satin stitch and contains a second square set onto a grid with hook motifs. This square has remains of yellow pulled work with wrapping stitch in diagonal rows; it has a light blue central diamond with a stylized flower or hook motif. The same diamond is repeated three times elsewhere in the design. Two squares contain an eight-pointed star; both square and star are outlined in yellow satin stitch embroidery and filled with delicate lines in light or dark blue double running stitch. Two triangles are also embroidered with yellow satin stitch in outline, and filled with dark blue double running stitch. The design field has a border with a linked cartouche and diamond.

The border band is 2 cm wide. There is a selvedge at right angles to the border.
