A surprise attack

  • Description

In another unidentified narrative episode from this group of Kutch folk paintings, a prince and his lady have stopped to rest from their journey under a tree. But they are then surprised by two running warriors wielding bows (their figures now partly missing) who are evidently pursuing them. The lady demurely holds her wine-flask. The prince’s horse paws at the ground, and his own bow and arrows hang from the tree. The moment has surely come for the prince to rise and repel the attack?
