    The Barlow Collection

Two similar jars excavated in Jinxian county, Jiangxi province, can be dated to 1170.

The small ovoid jar has a thick everted foot and a short wide neck. The conical cover has a flat everted rim and a drop-shaped knob. The coarse beige-coloured ware is covered with a translucent glaze of bluish tinge, which pools to a clear, light blue where it forms a thicker layer. The glaze stops well above the foot, has been wiped from the rim of the jar but has run down into the neck, and leaves the underside of the cover free. The piece is undecorated. The glaze shows overall crazing.
