Chinese Prints 1950-2006 in the Ashmolean Museum

I am eager to listen to the call of distant history, setting free my thoughts to wander and float into the imagination of reality and illusion.

Zhang Xiaofeng graduated from the Middle School attached to the China National Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou in 1997. He was then recruited into the Printmaking Department of the Academy. After his graduation in 2001, he remained in the faculty to carry on research in Chinese traditional woodblock printmaking. Zhang Xiaofeng has creatively used the technique of assembled block, using the ‘quan (fist)’ knife to cut on fruitwood or plywood, he has developed a delicate style, which reflects both the appeal of traditional woodcut and the free thinking of modern times.
