    The Barlow Collection

The piece is of barbed quatrefoil section, with straight sides and a domed top, and supported on a straight circular foot. The beige-coloured stoneware is covered with a white slip and a fine, smooth creamy-white glaze, leaving rims, footring and part of the base free. Both pieces are incised on the sides with the character he (‘to join’) to indicate correct alignment of box and cover.
