The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

Two parallel bands and two birds are drawn in black outlines, with remains of painted blue, red, gold and brown. The smaller band is made up from long cartouches and circles; the circles are blue, the cartouches contain a golden tendril and leaves. The two birds face each other; they are naturalistically drawn.

The original accession card identifies the fragment as probably originating in Iraq, dating to the 11th/12th century.
