kufic
A term denoting various styles of angular Arabic script. Emerged in the early centuries of Islam, kufic soon became the preferred hand to copy holy texts.

The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries
A border of three stylized trees with small birds and a continuous line of pseudo kufic inscription.
A carefully sewn hem and a run-and-fell seam at right angles to it indicate that the fragment was the base of a garment for example a tunic. The inscription may possibly read 'blessing'.
