The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)
Aori; hammered-up edge; in low relief and fine chasing on the front is the angle of a temple-gate, with a fenced recess in which stands a statue of one of the Ni-ō (see 936) [EAX.10936] in very high incrustation of copper (his eyes shakudō, his scarf and other details gilt); there are also two pigeons, one roosting on a branch of the pine-tree of which the trunk appears at the back in sunk low relief and engraving.
Signed as 936 [EAX.10936], but with a different kakihan [Japanese text].
