    Vitreous coating applied to the surface of a ceramic to make it impermeable or for decorative effect.

    Ceramic material made of clay which is fired to a temperature of c.1200-1300⁰c and is often buff or grey in colour.

    The Barlow Collection

    The small cup is hemispherical in shape, with a small, straight foot with lower footring and unevenly shaped base. The dark reddish-brown ware is covered with a white slip and a brownish-green glaze, both of which leave the lowest part free.
