The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

The bottom of a tunic with a fine border band of heart-shaped leaves or flowers and two parallel lines; the same design is embroidered at right angles to the embroidery at the hem. In addition there is a line of individual hexagons flanked by two small diamonds and containing S-shapes. A design panel with an overall pattern has small, paired geometric Y-shapes arranged vertically and horizontally.

The design arrangement makes it certain that the fragment was once part of a tunic; see EA1984.353 for a complete example. The stitched hem was sewn after the embroidery was done.
