    The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)

    Imitating a Court guard of full aoi type with its ō-seppa are each spanned by a cross of four gilt ken (ancient double-edged sword) blades, and show besides on the ppolished surfaces an interrupted fret diaper in gold wire inlay; the surface of the main body just showing beyond them is ishime (stone-grain) and the facetted raised border is gilt; the ken-blades invade the sd.
