  • Beauties of the Four Seasons by Mitsuko Watanabe

    Beauties of the Four Seasons

Here a woman, as a mitate of Kayoi-Komachi, is standing, holding a lantern in her arms. Behind, in a cartouche, Ono no Komachi stands on a veranda where she can see pine trees and cherry blossom. The word, kayoi suggests permanence and regularity, so the name Kayoi-Komachi derives from the story of a certain General who continued to express his love towards Komachi for 99 days.
