    Catalogue of Islamic Seals and Talismans

    Red jasper; bezel, bevelled towards the front; rectangular with cut angles; back angle cut. Inscriptions on the front (R) and on the back (V) faces.

    R- Three superposed compartments separated each from the other by a straight horizontal line. In the first compartment, one line of cursive script, with dots; in the second compartment, one line of Armenian script; in the third compartment, a date.

    (1 and 2) Jānū جانو
    [the same in Armenian script]
    (3) 1190/1777-8 ١١٩٠

    There are two schematic flower heads in the first compartment; some small simple crosses in the middle compartment; and two simple leaves symmetrically arranged on each side of the date, in the third compartment. One line follows the shape of the gem.

    V- Ensemble of cursive script, with some dots. A date beneath.

    There are some small schematic and isolated leaves spread over the ground.
