The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)
Mokkō; both faces and the edge of the raised border encrusted in gold with two dragons and the sacred pearl; each face of the filed inlaid in gold with chrysanthemum flowers and leaves and karakusa scrolls, this being done before the application of the nanako punch, giving a brocade effect.
A virtual duplicate of this guard, acquired at the W. L. Behrens Sale, was given by Sir Arthur Church to the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1914.
