kufic

  • kufic

    A term denoting various styles of angular Arabic script. Emerged in the early centuries of Islam, kufic soon became the preferred hand to copy holy texts.

    Bull of baked clay; oval, nearly circular; front face is plain, back face is convex. One line of kufic script around the border, arranged in four parts forming a square; without dots. Reading uncertain. In the centre, one star consisting of six concentric strokes.
