  • Islamic Seals and Talismans by Ludvik Kalus

Catalogue of Islamic Seals and Talismans

Lapis-lazuli; bezel, unbevelled; rectangular. Two lines of kufic script with a straight continuous base line; without dots.

    (1) By the greatness [?] [بعلاء [؟
    (2) of God الله

In comparision with the other talismans in the collection, this talisman has an unusual inscription and its kufic script is also an exception. It seems to be relatively old, perhaps dating from before the 7th/13th century.
