Autumn Water

  • Description

The phrase, which translates literally as ‘autumn water’, has carried the meaning ‘clear and brilliant’ since its use in poems of the Tang dynasty (AD 618-906). This piece was written for the Ashmolean’s previous China gallery in 2000 to mark the opening of the Khoan and Michael Sullivan Gallery of Chinese Painting.
