The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

A blazon is sewn onto a blue linen ground. The shield contains a white chalice, outlined in blue against a yellow ground. It is tripartite, with the upper and lower band in brown.

The embroidery fills the entire background of the circle. A white paper or felt backing is placed underneath the embroidery, and it is partly left exposed, as e.g. to shape the chalice. The blazon has a leather backing on the reverse.
