The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)
In fine modelling and iroye incrustation is a Chinese sage, Lin Ho-chi'ing (Japanese, Rinnasei, an 11th-century poet), pouring out wine, through a cloth bag as sieve, into a jar resting on the ground, a boy helping him; at the back, a willow-tree, chrysanthemums and a streamlet; ground (including edge) of perfect nanako. Signed: Hamano Kuzui saku (same artist as 978 [EAX.10978].)
A piece of first-class workmanship.
