    The Barlow Collection

    The piece is extremely fine in its craftsmanship, the conical sides faintly rounded, the inside with a small flattened centre, the foot broad and low. The inside is exquisitely engraved with a spray of lotus with a bloom and stylized scrolling leaves, and a stem of arrow-head, elegantly arranged to fill all available space, engraved in single and double outlines and structured by slight combing. A single line below the rim confines the design and the outside was left plain. The off-white body bears a translucent glaze of ivory tone, which shows tears of a slightly deeper colour on the outside. The base and footring are largely glazed, but the glaze was wiped from the rim.
