kufic

  • kufic

    A term denoting various styles of angular Arabic script. Emerged in the early centuries of Islam, kufic soon became the preferred hand to copy holy texts.

    Catalogue of Islamic Seals and Talismans

    Haematite; cabochon, plain-convex (but the frontal face has four rounded triangular facets); rectangular; set into a silver ring. Three lines of kufic script; the letters of the central line are larger than those of the two exterior lines; without dots.
