    The Barlow Collection

The rounded bowl has everted sides and a flared, down-curved rim. The foot is very low and broad. The coarse reddish-brown stoneware body bears a white slip and a transparent glaze and has been painted under the glaze in iron-brown with thin concentric lines inside in the centre and at the rim, and with dots of brown on the rim itself. The uppermost part of the outside is covered in brown slip, with further brown and white bands below. The transparent glaze leaves part of the slip on the outside free, and the lowest part, foot and base are exposed in the biscuit. The footring shows five white patches from large firing supports, with remains of grit, and corresponding patches of fine grit appear on the inside.
