Figure of a female musician

  • loan
  • Literature notes

The lady is shown seated on a square mat with her feet tucked under, her hands probably holding a musical instrument, which is now lost. The oval face has fine features, the hair is parted, wound up, tied in two loops on top of the head and bulging at the back, the head is left unglazed and the hair painted in black. The high-waisted dress with tight bodice and long narrow sleeves is covered with a transparent glaze, the long flaring skirt glazed in green, and a broad scarf, wound round the shoulder and falling down to her knees, was left unglazed, showing the beige-coloured earthenware. The mat is glazed in white with a green border and has a circular hole underneath, and the figure is hollow.
