Fuji from Kanaya on the Tōkaidō Road

  • Description

Kanaya was one of the stations on the Tōkaidō Road, the main road between Edo and Kyoto. It was located on the Oi River and because there was no bridge or ferry there, ‘river waders’ were used to carry travellers across its swift-flowing waters. This design belongs to a group of ten additional prints to the ‘Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji’, produced in response to the phenomenal success of the original series.
